No. It is not necessary to have any previous teaching experience. At Canaglobe we provide you with the necessary skills that will enable you to teach effectively in the ESL classroom. Q. What's the difference between TESL, TEFL, and TESOL? TESL stands for Teaching English as a Second Language, TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Please see the programme for more details. Q. Is this certification recognized? Canaglobe's TESOL Diploma Program is recognized by the PCTIA (Private Career Training Institutons Agency), the British Columbia Career Colleges Association, the National Association of Career Colleges, and the BC TEAL (Teachers of English as an Additional Language). A course of this duration (100 hours), including a practicum is internationally accepted as a credential for entrance into the ESL industry. Q. Will I get a job after I complete the course? There is a high demand for ESL teachers both locally and internationally. Overseas this standard ESL certification is highly marketable, and with assistance from our placement agencies we are confident that you will find the job you desire. Locally, the majority of ESL schools require this certification coupled with some kind of post secondary education. Q. What qualifications do the instructors possess? Our instructors are university graduates with years of experience teaching both locally and abroad and certified in ESL instruction. Q. Is the practicum an additional cost? The practicum is included in the cost of tuition. An extended practicum may be arranged at an extra cost. Q. What are the steps to landing a job upon completion of my course? Near the end of the course, Canaglobe's instructors and advisors will provide our graduates with resume building skills, interviewing techniques, and a list of all ESL schools in the area, along with access to our job postings. For those students wishing to find work overseas, Canaglobe will offer a session with an overseas job placement agency.
