Our TESOL program has a practicum integrated into the course of the four week study period, totaling approximately 10 hours of combined microteaching, and teaching observation practice. Students are given opportunities for presentation and interactive teaching practice, starting in the first week of their classes. They will begin with small presentations and short lessons to ease them into the role of teacher. In the final section of their course, they will plan, prepare and teach a full lesson as part of their teaching evaluation. The TEC Practicum is an opportunity to interact with young learners between the ages of 5 – 12. Students will observe and micro-teach to small groups of children at the center. This experience is vital to our students’ understanding of stages of behavior and development of young learners. They will gain confidence managing and leading students in activities. Students will have weekly assignments to hand in with regards to their practicum time.
It is our goal to prepare and guide student teachers into their role
as ESL teacher. We believe the practicum time is an essential component
of their experience and will provide them with skills and resources
they can take with them to their future careers.
